Privacy Policy

The Joy Company ("Joyco," "we," "us") is a nonprofit youth and family services organization based in San Bernardino, California. This policy explains what information we collect through joyco.info, how we use it, and the choices you have.

1. Information we collect

Information you give us

  • Contact and volunteer forms: your name, email, phone (if given), the program you are asking about and your message.
  • Newsletter sign-up: your email address.
  • Parent permission and media release forms: parent or guardian name, email and phone; the student's name, date of birth, school and grade; an emergency contact; any health, allergy or insurance information you choose to share; your media permission choice; and your electronic signature.
  • Shop orders and donations: your name, email, billing and shipping address and order details. Payments are processed by our payment providers; we do not see or store your full card number.

Information collected automatically

When you visit the site, we and our service providers collect basic technical information such as your browser and device type, approximate location (city level), pages viewed, links clicked, and how you arrived at the site. We use Google Analytics for this, which uses cookies.

2. How we use information

  • Respond to your questions and connect you with the right program.
  • Run our programs, including student participation, safety and emergency contact.
  • Send our newsletter and updates you signed up for.
  • Process shop orders, deliver digital downloads and send receipts.
  • Use photos and videos of students only as permitted on a signed media release.
  • Understand how people use the site so we can improve it.
  • Meet legal, insurance and record-keeping requirements.

3. How we share information

We do not sell or rent your personal information. We share it only:

  • With service providers who help us run the site and our work, including Wix (website hosting, forms, email, shop and checkout), our payment processors, and Google (Google Analytics). They may use the information only to provide services to us.
  • With medical providers in an emergency involving a student, as authorized on the parent permission form.
  • When required by law, or to protect the safety of students, families, staff or others.

Student information is never shared with schools, churches, agencies or other organizations, except medical providers in an emergency as described above.

4. Children and students

Our programs serve students, many under 18. Student information is collected from a parent or legal guardian through our permission forms, not from children directly. The site is not intended for children under 13 to submit information. If you believe a child under 13 has sent us personal information without a parent's consent, contact us and we will delete it.

Parents and guardians may ask to review, update or delete their student's information at any time.

5. Cookies and analytics

Cookies are small files stored in your browser. We use them to keep the shop cart working and, through Google Analytics, to measure site traffic. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the site will still work, though the shop cart may not. You can also opt out of Google Analytics with Google's browser add-on.

Do Not Track: our site does not currently respond to browser "Do Not Track" signals.

6. Security and retention

We use reasonable safeguards, including secure (HTTPS) connections and access limited to authorized Joyco staff. No website is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

We keep the information you give us, including signed release forms, until you ask us to delete it. Order records are kept as required for tax purposes.

7. Your choices and rights

  • Newsletter: unsubscribe using the link in any email.
  • Media permission: change or withdraw it at any time by emailing us.
  • Access, correction and deletion: ask us to see, correct or delete your information by emailing us. We will respond within 30 days, except where we must keep records by law.
  • California residents: under California law (Civil Code § 1798.83), you may ask whether we shared personal information with third parties for their direct marketing. We do not.

8. Links to other sites

Our site links to other sites and services, such as YouTube, Instagram, Facebook and TikTok. Their own privacy policies apply when you use them.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. We will post the new version on this page with a new effective date.
